This late S code pistol was manufactured for the Luftwaffe. It has the late front toggle link stamping "H K Krieghoff Suhl" with anchor between the "H" and "K". Serif "S" stamped above chamber. Barrel is stamped 882 with Imperial proof which is proper as barrels were not serial numbered before 3500. With the grips off you can see an Imperial eagle stamped inside magazine release and sear. You will also find three such proof marks on right side of frame and one on right rail; three have "2" under them. These pistols were finished in a distinctive salt type blue, which gives them the commercial type hue unlike other Lugers. The late S code pistols were manufactured in 1935, first year of manufacture for Krieghoff. It is estimated that approximately 1,600 to 1,800 late S codes were manufactured for the German Air Force. This pistol is in superb condition, showing only a touch of wear on sideplate bump and tip of rails; remaining 98%. The grips are the molded brown plastic with the fine checkering. Beautiful straw colors on small parts. These have always been and remain some of the most sought after off all Luger variation due to their distinct look and survival rate from Air Force use, and many were destroyed during the war. Mint bore and action.
