Circa 1994 per London proof code. Svelte "ribless" over/under barrels are fit with a bead front sight on a small 1 - 1/4" island with smooth ramp and matte textured rib, with a matching 1 - 1/2" island at the rear. Engraved "J. Purdey & Sons. London" in Gothic script ahead of rear island. Right side of top barrel, over chambers, with British nitro proofs for a .410 with 3" chambers and a nominal 10.4 IBD at 1200 BAR. Barrel flat with London Nitro proof for a .410 with 3" chambers and a nominal 10.4 IBD at 1200 BAR, and is further engraved "MADE FOR ED HINKLE / LEXINOTON [sic] N. CA" and "O/U HAMMERLESS EJECTOR GUN". Brief research indicates that Ed Hinkle is a citizen of some status in the Lexington area. He donated 183 acres of land to the Davidson and Davie Counties Foundation and was a Benefactor Honoree to United Way Davidson County. Bottom barrel with matching serial number and "76133 4" behind forearm loop. Forearm with reinforced Anson plunger release is checkered in a modified point pattern about two vacant diamonds with floral dressed escutcheon screws, with exterior iron engraved in a widely cut floral scroll. Interior iron with matching serial number and "PB" initials for Purdey actioner Phil Butcher. Small sized sidelock action is vibrantly case colored and engraved with the classic Purdey house rose-and-scroll, with gold inlaid "J. Purdey & Sons" in Gothic script at each bar. Underside with gold inlaid "J. Purdey & Sons / London. England". Gold line cocking indicators, double triggers, and automatic safety with "SAFE" inlaid in Gothic script ahead of slide. Long strap case colored trigger guard with a right-hand beaded edge with serial number gold inlaid at strap. Reddish walnut stock with a densely packed flame grain with teardrops behind locks, point pattern checkering with mullered borders about the straight grip, and gold inlaid "EH" initials along toeline, terminating in a finely checkered butt. Housed in a leather wrapped brass tabbed case lined in burgundy cloth with a James Purdey trade label and a charge card numbered to this gun in lid, and housing accessories comprising a two piece cleaning rod, mop, jag, and brush, striker pot with spare strikers, Purdey branded oil bottle, pair turnscrews, pair case straps, and pair snapcaps. CONDITION: Excellent, retaining virtually all of the factory finishes throughout with some extremely minor marks from handling and display. Stocks excellent, commensurate, with some very minor marks. Mechanically fine, ejectors are strong and in time, bores excellent, bright and shiny, with some very mild traces of firing. Case excellent with some exterior scuffs, accessories excellent, many NOS or equivalent. This is an outstanding small bore from one of the Best makers, in fabulous condition; ordering one new would require an extensive wait, especially in such a small bore. Please note that this lot and the previous lot appear to have been ordered by the same person, given the configuration and initials at toeline.
