The Mills Novelty Company spared no expense in the design and execution of this model. An exceptional double upright slot machine with a lower musical unit, produced by Mills Novelty Co. in 1899. The center of the machine boasts a music box behind glass, playing a short tune with each spin. The oak cabinet highlights include recessed panels, carved appliques and fluted columns, with a polished finish. Showing a split in the right side panel. Features include cast iron claw legs, reliefs of Admiral Dewey and Mozart, two cast iron 6-way coin heads, accepting nickels and quarters. The left side accepts up to six nickels at a time, and features a replacement reverse on glass of Admiral Dewey and reticulated silver leaf. The lithograph on tin playing wheel is immaculate but is not original to this machine. The right, "Two Bits", side accepts up to six quarters at a time, and features a replacement reverse on glass that reads "Mills Dewey" with stunning reticulated silver leaf. The lithograph on tin playing wheel is original with very minor paint loss, color variation, and spotting. 5¢ coin head front casting is a nickel plated replacement. Award casting, top signs, "Dewey", back doors and locks are also replacements. Casters on legs and music on/off handle are missing. In working condition, the machine plays and pays correctly with working music. The craftsmanship of this slot machine only goes to show why Mills Novelty Co. successes reigned decade after decade. Keys are included.
