This carbine was stocked in tiger maple using the lock, barrel and barrel bands from a 1766/68 Charleville musket. The tiger maple stock shows classic Bucks County, Pennsylvania architecture to the buttstock. The stock was made without a buttplate and shows generous traces of salmon red paint around lock, trigger guard, and barrel bands, among other protected areas, indicating Native American use. The Charleville lock has a deep "US" surcharge at the tail and a period-replaced cock. No sideplate and made with a crude iron trigger guard terminating in a point at the front. Complete with a period used wooden ramrod that appears to have been with it for a very long time, as there are lighter areas where the bands protect the wood. CONDITION: Barrel retains a dark patina, some pitting at breech. Lock is in its original flintlock configuration. Iron mounts show a dark patina. Stock shows an undisturbed dry surface with some scattered age cracks and marks from use. Generous traces of salmon red paint. A very interesting carbine using Revolutionary War marked and used components. DMG
