Offered is a fine condition all original as altered in 1901 US Artillery revolver assembled and altered at the Springfield factory from returned guns. You will find the following serial numbers and markings: barrel stamped "RAC" for Ronaldo A. Carr, cylinder stamped "RAC", frame stamped "DFC" for David Clark, the left pistol grip is stamped "OCH" and dated 1901 for Odis C. Horney, who was a captain in the Ordnance Corp at Springfield Armory and was detailed in inspect the Single Action Army revolvers that were being re-manufactured as artillery revolvers between 1901 and 1903. Right grip "RAC" stripped cartouche, trigger guard has lone "C" for Albert P. Casey, who inspected serial number range 16000-19000. Left side of frame has three line patent date and US stamp. Top of barrel has a sharp Colt Hartford stamp. CONDITION: Grips are excellent to near mint with sharp cartouche and most of its original finish. Case colors on frame have patterned out to a dull silver. Barrel retains approximately 75% arsenal refinish blue. Ejector housing retains 50% blue, balance turning brown patina. Has doughnut hole ejector head with hand turned marks. Cylinder retains approximately 50% blue balance turning gunmetal and patina. Mechanics are like new, all four clicks, and near mint sharp rifled bore. Far above average US Artillery Colt that saw use but was well cared for. These revolvers were refurbished and reissued for the so-called Banana Wars that the United States was involved with at the turn of the 20th century and this is a wonderful example.
