Qing Dynasty, 19th century. China. Of oval form with elongated spout and slightly everted rim, carved with leaves and flowerheads along the rear inner edge and descending from the mid-point to the center of the bowl. The applied flattened handle similarly carved. The exterior of the cup carved overall in foliate vinery of random design in medium relief. The stem base is narrow and flared at the foot. Nut brown patina and lustrous polished surface. Very good.
Provenance: The Great Grandfather of the consignor was an associate of H. L. Hunt and his Grandfather was close to the Hunt brothers; Bunker and Herbert. They both worked in Asia and America. His Grandfather traded two cups for several thousand acres and gave each brother 1,000 acres for farming. The rest were given to the consignor's Father as he was the oldest.
