Historic, likely San Juan Hill captured Hotchkiss revolving cannon #1198 sitting on a beautiful carriage. The revolving cannon has not been restored and is in very fine condition. It retains its original braking mechanism. Included are owner and sales history, old photographs and reference excerpts contained in a three-ring binder. Gun has Spanish Army markings consistent with the provenance. Information follows the ownership of this cannon from when it was in a museum in Florida to London, England, then to Preston, England into the private collection of Rod Akeroyd, then back to Culver City, CA where the current owner purchased it from a noted antique dealer. Includes original metal feed chute with 5 reloaded rounds of 37 mm ammunition, and absolutely magnificent hand crafted wood ammunition chest with original brass hardware and “Hotchkiss” data plate with nine reloaded cartridges, and bore brush head. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is extremely fine to near excellent. Brass parts have turned a very pleasing soft patina. Barrel exteriors also have turned a pleasing brown patina over uniform pitting with a bullet strike scallop on #4 barrel. Bores are very good with strong rifling with some pitting uniformly on the lands and grooves. The gun is unrestored with the exception of the carriage which has been repainted. Mechanics are fine with a satisfying “Ka-choink” as it is actuated. A genuine and Veteran 19th Century version of the modern MK-19 Grenade launcher. Fantastic historical piece !!
