This Talwar sword is important due to its splendid Watered Wootz blade which is of the highest quality and is well signed on the right side in three separate cartouches highlighted and inlaid with gold. The blade is 33" long and 1-1/4" wide and displays a very fine kirk narduban (Ladder of Allah) pattern. The Talwar hilt with guard is decorated with gold in arabesque patterns. CONDITION: The condition of the blade is fine with only minor staining at extreme tip. The Wootz pattern is visible throughout its length. The gold damasceneing on the hilt is heavily worn. The gold inlay in the maker's cartouche is partially intact, but the calligraphy is very legible. The scabbard is recovered with new velvet. One of the finest ladder pattern Wootz blades we have seen in a Talwar.
