This rifle was invoiced at the Bridgeport factory on December 31st, 1878 to N. Curry & Bro. in San Francisco, California and shipped as a .45-70 carbine. This is a standard carbine as follows: 24" round barrel, single barrel band, saddle ring on left side, and checkered steel buttplate. This gun is in fine condition considering the hard use most of these saw and the fact that only about 300 were ever manufactured. It has a carbine style folding rear sight. Barrel is stamped "Old Reliable Sharps Rifle Co. Bridgeport, Connecticut". Metal is basically a nice mix of blue mixing with brown patina with some light freckling. Wood is excellent, original, never refinished, albeit there are a couple of dents on the left side of stock and a 3/4" crack at the left side of wrist (easily repaired). Action is perfect. Strong bore with some light abrasion. A well-cared for rare gun sent to a desirable location.
