One of the more desirable pistols amongst 1911 aficionados are those made for the United States Navy prior to World War I. This pistol was manufactured in 1913 and is a standard Navy in all respects. According to the factory letter it was part of a 1,300 gun shipment sent on July 25th, 1913 to the General Storekeeper, Brooklyn Naval Yard. Features include a 5" barrel, blued finish, semi-automatic, chambered for the .45 ACP cartridge, and walnut diamond checkered grips. Right side of the slide is stamped "Model of 1911 U.S. Navy", left side has the manufacture, patent dates, and Colt pony. Left side of the frame is stamped "United States Property" in addition to "W.G.P." for Walter G. Penfield (1911-1914). The serial number falls correctly into the block of Navy pistols, shipped to the Brooklyn Naval Yard. The gun has been completely disassembled and we offer the following notes: "H.T." stamped inside frame; "M" stamped at back of slide; two-tone magazine later replacement, no key hole or lanyard; barrel has "P" on the left lug; diamond checkered grips are replacements; has a type one barrel bushing; short type one hammer, type one housing catch; type one slide stop; and a type three rounded tab. Has the long pull smooth trigger with the U-notched read sight and small front. Gun retains virtually of the reapplied high polish blue finish. Lettering has been in-filled in white. Bore is excellent and action perfect. A very finely restored and rare U.S. Navy. Factory letter.
