September 20th 2015 Premier Firearms Sale
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 9/19/2015
Features a 20-3/4" barrel. We are pleased to offer at auction a vast collection of high condition air rifles from a single collection. Within this collection are some of the highest condition and scarcest air guns dating from the latter part of the 19th century. Given that these air rifles were manufactured to be used by boys, which would in itself dictate that they generally saw extremely hard use and rarely survive with any condition, this alone makes this quite an unusual offering. The first gun of this collection has matching numbers; with full factory nickel plating; sporting leaf rear sight; walnut stock; and the nickel plated buttplate. This example is a Model 9. The frame has the rectangular loading port behind rear sight. The Model 9 was manufactured from 1920 to 1941. The most distinguishing feature of this rare model is the knurled muzzle piece to support the shot tube. Has the removable high post front sight blade in slot. Rifle retains approximately 97% of the original factory nickel finish with some minor wear on top of barrel at breach and a couple of mars on left side of frame. Perfect legends, razor sharp edges, original nickel screws at stock. Buttplate is basically greyed out. Excellent original stocks with no cracks or chips, retaining generous amounts of original factory finish, starting to craze. The model 9 is considered one of the holy grails of the entire Quackenbush air rifle line.
