Most likely from the early part of the 20th century, this finely carved piece of Americana is most impressive upon close inspection! The face features glass eyes including a hinged leather jaw exposing a set of "choppers". Expressive facial features and a clenched left hand with an open right hand further add to the appeal of this fellow. By placing ones' hand into the open rear back area the ventriloquist could turn/nod the head and open/close his mouth. The attachments and stringing allowing these actions seem to be disengaged presently but looks like they could be reconnected. At the rear and partially covered by his original short curly hair is an access wooden plate allowing entrance into his head area. His chest area appears to be of hollow wooden construction, his legs jointed at the hips and knees appear to be of a straw stuffed linen/fabric material. He is dressed in what is most likely his original period sateen clothing (fading purple shirt) and accented by brown & white child's boots. A truly remarkable piece of great quality with a great presence about him. Overall in excellent original condition with some hair loss to wigged head area.
