Circa 1770 English short sword with curved steel blade with double fullers. Gilt brass hilt with four slot with engraved lines and a lion's head pommel with capstan. Horn grip with bulbous turnings and wrapped with a spiraled copper band with gilt brass ferrule at front. For an example with an nearly identical hilt, see figure 139.S on page 108 of "Swords and Blades of the American Revolution" by George C. Neumann. This is a particularly fine example, retaining nearly all of the original gilt finish on the hilt, with only some light edge wear and scattered marks. Grip excellent and blade very good with dark brown patina with some minor freckling.
