Manufactured in 1861. This fine No. 3 Root has a barrel retaining nearly all its original bright bluing with thinning and edge wear. Frame retains nearly all its original bright bluing, thinning on back strap. Cylinder has browning on high points and very minor pitting on high point of one cylinder, hammer had bright case colors on protected areas and fading on the exposed areas. Takedown screw is damaged. Other screws are nearly perfect. Original varnished walnut grips retain nearly all its finish with high point wear at toe and one very minor chip on right side near toe. Mahogany case with brown lining is in fine condition. Colt's patent eagle flask with much original lacquer, some gilding to spout and top, and one minor dent. Packet of combustible cartridges, good brass .31 cal. mold with blued sprue screw, and Eley's patent caps.
