SCARCE EARLY WINCHESTER MODEL 1866 SADDLE RING CARBINE. WINCHESTER 1866 22257 44RF Cal 44 RF Henry. Standard carbine with 20" Henry's Patent marked bbl, full magazine, integral front band/front sight and 2-position flip rear sight. Receiver has a staple & ring in the left side. Mounted with uncheckered straight grain American walnut with straight stock & crescent rifle brass buttplate with trap, standard for early carbines. Trap contains an orig 3-pc brass & steel cleaning rod. Top tang channel of buttstock & inside toe of buttplate have last 4 digits of matching SN. Few of these early carbines survive today in orig configuration. They were the gun that won the west. CONDITION: Very fine plus, all matching. Bbl retains thin blue in sheltered areas being mostly a blue/gray patina. Magazine tube retains about 90% orig blue. Receiver & side plates have crisp sharp edges and a wonderful dark caramel patina. Buttplate is matching patina. Wood is sound with a few light nicks & scratches and retains about all of its orig oil finish. Mechanics are crisp, bright shiny bore with scattered spots of pitting. 51379-25 JRL (10,000-17,000)
