London, circa 1785. Henry Nock is one of the more famous English gun makers, and while not as renowned as Durs Egg or Joseph Manton, it is none the less known for his excellent flint lock pistols and long guns. This pair is no exception. The signed and bolt locks with push on safeties, water proof pan, and roller bears frizzen. The heavy octagonal barrel has deeply sunken gold lined maker's stamp "H. Nock London", small silver foresights, a trigger guard engraved with flowers and field and an English pineapple, silver forend caps and wedge escutcheons, figured walnut fore stock finely checkered at wrists, Guns have silver thumb pieces and set triggers. Both locks have all original small parts, including two jaws and screws. Actions are crisp. One set trigger requires minor adjustment. Barrels have brown patina and no significant pitting. Trigger guards have no original finish but crisp engraving. Figured walnut half stocks with scattered dents and wear to what appears to be the original varnish. One pistol with fairly deep scratch to right side near wedge escutcheon. Pistols are cased in a period walnut case with renewed green felt lining and some accessories, including later Dixon bag flask, bullet mold, and cleaning rod. Top of case is refinished and case escutcheon appears to be a contemporary replacement. Ramrods are period, but not original to these pistols.
