The Colt Model 1872 open top revolver was manufactured for a limited time of 1871-1872 for a total production of approximately 7000 total. This rare "frontier" model bridged the cap between the percussion/metallic cartridge conversion era to the famous cartridge model 1873 Single Action Army. Chambered in .44 rimfire, same as the then popular Henry and Model 1866 Winchester, these handguns saw heavy use on the Western Frontier. This revolver, serial number 1124, is very early having the simple "Colts Patent" stamp on the frame rather than the later 1871-72 patent dates. Nickel with varnished one piece "Army Size" grips, and a 7 - 1/2" barrel with integral rear sight. Left grip is stamped "PC 6" on the left side butt. CONDITION: Excellent overall with approximately 85-90% original nickel on the barrel, and cylinder. Very strong roll die naval battle scene on cylinder. Frame retains 50-60% nickel blending with patina. Grips are fine showing modest wear with most of the original varnish remaining. -MKS-
