Winchester Model 70 Super Grade bolt action rifle built by the Winchester Repeating Arms Company in New Haven, Connecticut in 1954. Blued Winchester Proof Steel barrel with underside of barrel marked "SUPER 300M 56". Integral ramp front sight with hood and Lyman 16B fold-down rear sight, possibly special ordered since low combs usually came with Winchester 22K rear adjustable sight, and comes with factory added Lyman 48WJS receiver sight. Black matted finish action with non-jeweled hollow handle bolt numbered "307591" matching gun with 3-position safety. Uncommon for this vintage walnut low comb stock with late style Super Grade cheekpiece, correct steel checkered Widow's Peak buttplate and steel grip cap, Super Grade style diamond checkering, blued "SUPER GRADE" marked detachable floorplate, Super Grade style ebony forend tip, and Super Grade sling swivels. PROVENANCE: George Baumer Collection. CONDITION: Gun retains 90% sharp original barrel blue with some slight freckling. 90% action finish with light bolt handle wear. 90% original varnish with some flaking on forend tip and under receiver sight. Missing original sling. Good bore and mechanics. DLM
