Converted circa 1865 from a standard Springfield Armory Model 1863 contract rifle. 1864 dated 37 - 3/4" .58 rifled barrel retained by 3 iron bands. Unmarked breechblock fitted at rear with integral rear sight. Standard case hardened lock plate dated 1864 with federal eagle and "U.S. / SPRINGFIELD" markings. Full length walnut stock with a faint script "ESA" cartouche. Complete with tulip head ram rod and "U.S." marked socket bayonet. CONDITION: Very good. In the white barrel with a few scattered marks and an overall gold colored oil stained patina. Traces of case colors still visible on lock with a balance yellow/brown patina. Stock cleaned with some scattered marks and a 1 - 1/2" crack ahead of the lock plate. Bore very good with crisp rifling. Fine mechanics. BAS
