This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 12/14/2021
Lot consists of two items. A) Civil War Union infantry waist belt made and marked by Reuben Nece and inspected and marked by Sniffen. Plate is correct arrow-back style. Belt has correct C-clasp brass keeper. Cap box is also by Nece and inspected by Laidley on the inner flap. CONDITION: Very good. Belt has nice color and finish with only expected craquelure and wear spots where the belt overlaps. Cap box has good finish, with belt loops and side ears of inner flap in place, along with fleece lining. Vent pick likely a modern copy. B) Cartridge box is 1864 pattern with embossed US not pierced for box plate. White inspector stamp at lower left of outer flap. Shoulder sling in place with eagle breast plate. CONDITION: Very good. Nice color with good original finish showing crackling and some losses, but not treated with preservatives or polished. All loops, buckles and tabs in place. Interior flap, side ears, implement pocket, magazine tins, in place. Shoulder belt complete and flexible. Crackling and finish loss from flexing. Round eagle plate is original, some darker patina than belt plate, fastened with wood pegs, likely replaced or added to the sling, but original and correct. These show very well together and are correct for 1864 and the climactic battles of the war. They would help complete a basic infantry display.
