The Cutty Sark was a British Clipper Ship built in 1898 specially for tea trade with China. With the opening of the Suez Canal in 1869 and advancements in steamships, the Cutty Sark was only used for a couple years in the tea trade before turning to the wool trade with Australia. She was sold to a Portuguese company, and renamed "Ferreira" in 1895. She continued as a cargo ship until 1922, and later became a training ship in Falmouth, Cornwall. She transferred to the Thames Nautical Training College in Greenhithe in 1938 and was used as a cadet training ship until 1954 when she was put in permanent dry dock and public display in Greenwich London. This masterfully hand-built scale model features a carved solid wood hull with hand laid tiles. All hand tied rigging and hand shaped masts and spars. Comes with a glass display case.
