30" skelp Damascus barrels with bead fornt sight on a wide, tapered, concave rib signed "Chas Allport, Maker". Underside with British proofs, hooked breeches with aligned truing strikes. Ramrod with threaded backend feeds through a pair of ferrules soldered to under rib before feeding into a reinforced mouth. Percussion locks with acanthus scroll and engraved with scenes of a pointer chasing after a quail, signed "Chas Allport" at the bar. Double triggers protected by a wide trigger guard with another scene of a dog watching a quail take flight. Buttplte with long heel finial engraved with acanthus and Celtic knotwork. Stock of a nicely grained walut with flattop checkering about the wrist, with an inset silver plaque with a family crest that depicts a rooster surmounted by the saying "Sic Donet" (Latin, trans: "Thus Until".) In a case with a complement of accessories including measures, cleaning tools, powder and shot flask (shot flask full), and small tools. Lid with split ring handle is engraved "Charles Jopp Edinburgh"; brief research indicates Jopp was a Scottish railroad engineer who was a noted hunter and sportsman. CONDITION: Very good, with evidence of lacquering over the locks, softening the engraving somewhat. Stock with handling marks and impressions but strong. Buttplate and trigger guard reblued. Case and accessories very good.
