This rare rifle has a full octagon barrel with no visible markings or rifling. Notched iron rear sight and brass front blade sight. The converted lockplate is stamped "1817" at the tail and "RICHMOND / VIRGINIA" in the center. The rifle was converted using a dolphin-head hammer and drum bolster. Standard brass Second Model patchbox and furniture. Plain walnut stock. Ramrod appears to be its original. CONDITION: Barrel retains a brown surface with pitting throughout, heavier at breech. Lock retains a light brown patina with scattered light pitting, markings very good. Lock spring does not function. Brass retains a mustard patina. Stock as found and untouched with scattered cracks, minor losses and out stains. Some wood loss above lockplate behind breech. A very scarce rifle that a Confederate likely used during the Ciivl War.
