Rare 9" doll, with side glancing, stationary glass eyes, each resembling a WWI soldier costume, with the one side resembling a Turkish soldier, and the other with a green rimmed hat is most likely French. Both faces are smiling, and at the bottom of the neck on one side is incises "DEP" and on the other, "Elite". These were made for Max Handwerck by the Hertel & Schwab Firm. These doll were meant to represent the soldiers fighting in WWI and each had a version that one side is supposed to represent a different country. This however, is the only known two face version depicting two of the participating countries. He is on a composition, five piece toddler body with "star fish" hands. All of these dolls are hard to find, but his one the hardest of all in the series.
