The XK 120 was launched in open seat roadster form at the 1948 London Motor Show. The initial show car was nearly identical to the finished production model. The roadster caused such a sensation that design boss and Jaguar founder, William Lyons, put it into production in 1948 with the first car going to American actor Clark Gable in 1949.Powered by a double overhead cam in-line six cylinder engine with two SU carburetors, the advanced engine produced 160 hp. Initially introduced as an open two-seater (OTS) roadster, a Fixedhead Coupe would be introduced in 1951 with a more luxurious Drophead Coupe convertible being produced in 1953. In its time the XK 120 was the fastest production car in the world reaching speeds of over 120 mph, hence the model name. It would win races around the world and be the development model for Jaguar’s forthcoming success at the 24 HRS of Lemans.Offered is an exquisite 1954 Jaguar XK 140 Drophead Coupe finished in gleaming black exterior with tan Connolly hides and Wilton Wool carpeting.
