C. 1880. Wooden Native American novelty statue of a "Tobacconist's Figure", attributed to John Philip Yeager. Yeager (1823 - 1899) left his native Germany at 23 and eventually settled in Baltimore. He did many types of carvings, especially for ships and "tobacconists". His ad in the city directory in 1853 - 1854 advertised "Plain, Ornamental and Fancy Carver," and "Architectural and Ship Work, also Molds for Castings and Sculpture." Yeager often used his daughter Eva Isabelle as his model for Indian maidens, which is likely the case with this example. Beautifully carved and in impeccable condition, this cigar figure could be the cornerstone to any tobacco collection. CONDITION: All original, showing no repairs or touch-up inpainting. Beautiful polychrome paint with an original base. Light age cracks are present, but nothing to distract from the very pleasing presence of the maiden with an exceptional look.

This is not a standard shippable item and will require 3rd party shipping or pickup arrangements to be made.

Condition: (Excellent).

Item Dimensions: 24" X 24"X 82"
