This is an exceptionally rare set of Old Virginia Cheroots promotional cardstock advertisements called "The Cake Walk" and numbered one through five with ladies and gentlemen striking many different positions. Bottom right-hand corner also shows product with iconic bearded gentleman on cigar package. This early tabacco company was founded in 1865 by Phiilip Witlock who hired 6 cigar rollers and opened the P Witlock Co., by 1885 he had hired 70 cheroot rollers, capable of rolling 100,000 cheroots a week. He went on to grow and become one of the most famous cigar manufacturing company of its time. This is what we believe to be one of two full sets known to exist. Across the bottom reads "This Picture without any Lettering Sent for Ten (10) Old Virginia Wrappers, Write Name and Address Plainly / The American Tobacco Co. 507 West 22nd St. N.Y. City. / This Offer Expires Dec. 31st 1899.". All five pieces are very nicely framed and matted, all with different images depicting the couples with different expressions. Super strong colors, fantastic graphics, hard to find any cigar advertisements with a more highly detailed story to tell. There is normal edge wear, no discoloration or fading, a wonderful addition to any advertising collection. Professionally framed behind museum glass.

Condition: (8.7).
