German. Circa 1925. Produced by H. Fischer and Company Nuremberg, Germany. Working. Toy is marked "Copyright Oscar Hitt", who was both a comic strip artist and professional toy designer. Very complex mechanism. The Hi-Way Henry toy, designed by Oscar Hitt, represents the apex of toy design in the golden age of comic character tin. All parts are original and depict a lovely line of wash hanging out to dry on top of car with a dog on a spring emerging from his doghouse in the radiator and a lady in the backseat listening with earphones to the radio. Presumably, the driver is Henry. Minor wear, especially on roof. Collection of Carl Lobel.
