Italian. Circa 1920. Made by Bell. Very rare. This is one of three known litho variations of the German toy, see auction lot #1337, that were made in Italy. This Italian toy is the one that most closely resembles the German original. Working. Marked “Made in Italy Bell” on bottom of both front pant legs. Walks forward on comically oversized shoes with spinning cane. The walkingmechanism is a very early attempt to make the movement appear more natural and realistic. Moderate overall wear. Collection of Carl Lobel.
