Rarely offered Expert Wooden Minnow from Charles Shaffer of Alliance, OH, most likely dating to 1901. This very early wood body minnow measures 3-3/8" in length, finished in the typically seen black back blending to a softly patina-ed silver belly, with red hand painted gill marks, yellow glass eyes, and "bent" bow tie style spinners. Condition of this 114 year old classic is about very good/very good+ showing wear at the tail, scattered hook points, and a small screw hole in the right side. Correct period hooks have been rewired at some time. The Shaffer Expert, aka The Holzwarth Expert is one of the most important baits in the beginning history of the underwater wooden minnow.
