Barrel length 30", 12 bore, 2-3/4" chamber, nitro proofed, 15" LOP to front trigger. The famed London firm of Henry Atkin began in 1890, having studied under James Purdey. He is best remembered today as developing the first self-opening side by side shotgun. Many consider Henry Atkin quality of surpassing that of Purdey, which is quite a statement in and of itself. That said, no further elaboration on quality need be discussed. The offered shotgun is a traditional English side lock, with English straight grip stock, blued barrels are choked full and full, with solid matted rib, are numbered "781", top of the barrel is stamped "Henry Atkin (from Purdy)" as well as the address "2 Jermyn Street, Haymaker London". Retains approx 95% blued finish and features the doll head lock. The action features fine scroll with "Henry Atkin" on side, bottom of frame is stamped "Henry Atkin from Purdy's". There is a nickel identification oval engraved on butt "RW". The breech face is chisel engraved in a more open scroll. Stock consists of fancy grade walnut with wrap around checkering at wrist, butt stock has a solid red rubber recoil pad. The fore-end and tang are numbered "714". The wood is in excellent condition with most of its original oil finish, the checkering shows wear and has lost its sharpness. Lock up and faces as new. Release lever is at 5:30.
