An interesting feature, these cutters were often in smoke shops. The premise was that a fellow patron about to purchase his “smoke” would venture a bet with another patron as to whom would pay for the cigar. Once the arrangement was secured between patrons, a lead ball was dropped into the donkeys back pack, and randomly the ball would either tip the donkeys tail or the donkeys head, and thus the loser paid for both cigars. Hence this cutter is also known as the heads or tails cutter. Often times this cutter comes with no advertising on the front plate but in this case it advertises G. R. Unkrich from Buffalo, N.Y. as a manufacturer of cigars. In excellent all original gilt finish with three lead balls included.
