Manufactured under U.S. contract from January 1943 through November 27th, 1943, with serial numbers range of 1041405 to 1096404. Right side of frame has standard United States Property Army stamps. Left side of frame has a proof “P” near magazine release with “R.C.D.” inspector stamp on left side of frame in circle for Robert C. Downie. Downie was the inspector at US&S from July of 1942 through the final production in 1943. Slide is stamped “US&S Co. Swissvale, PA” and there is a small proof “P” offset to rear of barrel sans serifs. The blued barrel is stamped “P” on left side and “HS” for Hi Standard on right. Pistol has small checkered spurless hammer, checkered slide stop and safety, short checkered trigger, checkered arched mainspring housing with lanyard loop, brown Keyes plastic grips with star “K” stamped "14" and "4". Slide has distinctive two-tone heat line at muzzle. Gun is basically a dull greyish Parkerized military finish with some average age spotting. Front grip strap is worn to grey-brown patina. Excellent bore and action. Comes with one period magazine. Housed in a reproduction Kraft-style box. Very good example of a fairly scarce World War II pistol.
