These were manufactured in 1871 to 1874 only. The bulk of these revolvers are found in nickel finish. Finding a high condition, blued example is extremely difficult. This is a standard model in all respects. This First Model Russian also referred to as the Old Model Russian or Model No. 3 Russian First Model. Except for the caliber, it is identical to the commercial .44 American. All legends are in English, top rib stamped Russian model. It is a top break, six shot, single action with case colored hammer and trigger guard. Also has two piece walnut grips and lanyard ring. Cylinder is stamped 485B, latch is stamped 485 as is barrel. The 485 is the assembly number. Right grip panel is stamped 10525. Commercial guns used assembly numbers rather than serial numbers. This indicates that this is a civilian, commercial version and not a Russian contract reject. Legends are perfect. Nice colors on hammer with traces on trigger guard. Frame retains approximately 80% of the original S&W factory high polish blue finish. The cylinder is a mix of blue/ brown patina with brilliant blue in flutes. The barrel is brilliant factory blue at base and rib recess with a fine mix of blue patina on balance. The action index and locks up like new. Has a strong near mint bore and grips. This an extremely fine, all original Old Model Russian in extremely desirable blue finish.
