Manufactured 1903. This standard model Lightning has basically turned a soft grey-plum patina with the exception of some blue at top of backstrap. The Colt black composite grips are in excellent condition. Functions perfectly both single and double action. Strong clean bore. The backstrap is engraved “Am. Exp. Co. 936”. Factory letter states that this revolver was shipped as follows: 4-1/2", blue, engraved "Am.Exp. Co. 936" on backstrap, to William Read & Son, Boston, MA for C.E. Seaton, May 26th, 1903 in a 50 gun shipment. The American Express Company, at the turn of the century, was involved in transportation, often guarding mail and bank transfers. These guns were issued to the guards. A very nice, clean, untouched, all original example.
