These Cadet rifles were manufactured from 1888 to 1893, with this particular rifle manufactured 1892. Features a Buffington rear sight, two barrel bands, walnut stock, and sling swivels. Barrel has VP eagle proof on left side. Both bands are stamped ‘U’. Forend cap not stamped. Has a period metal cleaning rod. One piece walnut stock has perfect cartouche “S.W.P 1892” (Sam Porter) on left side. Bottom wrist with cursive proof “P”. Case colored trap stamped “U.S. Model 1884”. “U.S.” and Springfield eagle on sideplate. Walnut stocks are excellent with usual minor dings. Buttplate stamped “U.S.”. Traces of color on block. Age freckled blue-brown finish on barrel, sideplate and hammer. Trigger guard is dark brown patina. Blue-grey patina on hammer and sideplate. Stock has some light toning from oil at plate. Fine action. Strong clean rifling. One piece trigger guard second type. Metal is a soft blue mixing with patina. Way above average Cadet rifle.
