Rifled steel barrel stamped “V/P/Eagle’s head” near breech, bayonet lug mounted on underside, near muzzle. Three-stage adjustable ramp rear sight and front blade sight mounted on barrel band. Flat percussion lockplate with beveled edges, stamped “SPRING/FIELD/1858 on tail and “Eagle/US” in center. Steel hardware, sling swivels and ramrod. Buttplate tang stamped “US” and with unit or rack marks “D/56.” Full-length walnut stock. Very good condition with scattered light pitting overall with some filing around rear sight and bolster. Lock has been cleaned and now retains a spotted light brown patina, tail markings double stamped at time of production. Hardware has light patina and some spotting. Stock very good with scattered marks from use.
