Two-stage smoothbore barrel. Octagonal section is finely engraved with detailed scrolls and floral scenes. Early lock is decorated with military motifs on plate and cock. Spring is decorated with engraving and shaped with scalloping and ornate finial. Brass furniture with scrolls and repeating patterns in high relief. Unusual brass barrel band towards muzzle. Walnut stock with carving around lockplate and sideplate, carved with a scroll design around barrel tang. Excellent condition. Barrel retains a light brown patina with some scattered dark spots. Lock engraving excellent and an even brown patina. Brass retains a mellow patina. Stock is very good, some scattered marks from use with one small repair along the forend near muzzle on right side. Front stud of triggerguard bow is loose. Very nice example of an early 18th century officer’s pistol, probably Italian.
