Designated the Model 1935/06 Portuguese GNR (Garde Nationale and Republicanie, Republic National Guard). An exact total of 564 were manufactured in 1935 only. Information on these guns comes directly from the Portugeuse government. All have the intertwined "GNR" above chamber, are marked "Carregada" on left side, lower safety area marked "Seguranca", have checkered walnut grips and serial numbers are followed by a small letter "v". All four pistols have all matching numbers. Comes with four original holsters, four original magazine pouches, four original loading tools and all four original metal top cleaning rods. Three have pins, one holster does not. Back of the magazine pouches are all dated 1936. All four have nickel body aluminum bottom magazines not numbered. All have grip safeties. All toggles have the Mauser banner. Guns feature the standard factory blue finish with straw colored small parts. Walnut checkered grips are not numbered. All have fine bores and actions. Serial No. 2273 shows the most wear, grip straps are grey patina, rail is grey, 30% blue on sideplate, light muzzle wear, 75%. 2272 shows very little wear, retains approximately 95%+ original finish. 2275 is as nice as 2272. 2274 has high edge rail wear, high edge wear on sideplate, light muzzle wear and approximately 85-90%. All have nice straw colors. Grips are all excellent with no cracks or chips on any of them. It is interesting to note that these pistols were sent to Portugal at the time of the Spanish Revolution and rise of the Brown Shirts and the Nazi party in Germany. Portugal officially supported Franco's National Forces during the era these guns were shipped, as did Italy and Germany. The need for pistols probably arose from the possibility of being drug into the Spanish Civil War. During World War II, Portugal remained neutral but supported both the Allies and Axis power with supplies and as a country leaned in favor of the Nazis. This is a once in a lifetime single collection of four consecutive Lugers with a total production of just slightly over 500 units, sent to a country during the tumultuous era of 1935 to 1945.
