There were several gunmakers with the last name of “Fletcher” but during the period of 1830-1850 we come up with William or Richard II, both of who plied their trade near London during this era. Top of the barrel is stamped “Fletcher, London”. It is an interesting large bore dragoon size pistol that measures 13-1/2” in length and weighs 2 lbs 11 oz. Has hexagonal rifling with numerous British proof marks on the right side. The frame is elegantly engraved. Sports the double dolphin-head hammers and German nickel wrist escutcheon. The action is scalloped. Has double triggers. Finely checkered one piece walnut handle with engraved buttcap and hinged compartment. Trigger guard is finely engraved. Perfect working condition with original nipples. All metal surfaces are a smooth grey patina with razor sharp engraving and legends. Strong rifled bores with usual minor black powder abrasion. An extremely fine, early London large frame pistol.
