This exquisite carbine was manufactured in 1949. Checking with factory records, no information available but it is our summation that this carbine is absolutely factory engraved and is the work of John or Nick Kusmit. John studied under George Ulrich and they plied their trade at the Winchester factory after the war. You can find examples of this distinct border style engraving on page 416 of the Winchester Engraving book. The panel scene features antlered game on both sides. The pin-punch leaves follow the pattern scene on page 415, and the game can be seen on page 412. The style of panel mirrors a Gough design seen on page 336. There is engraving covering both sides of the frame with the scarce dual panels. The tang is engraved with the addition of a deer head in circle. Original Winchester rear sight is engraved, barrel bands are engraved, as is the receiver toggle. Standard features include ramp front sight, full magazine, blued finish, two barrel bands, the forward most being flat, long wood walnut forend, straight grip walnut stock and checkered steel butt plate. Overall metal retains 99% original factory blue. Walnut stocks are near mint. Fine bore and action. A detailed close study of the engraving leaves no doubt that it is in the master class. Engraved Winchesters done at the factory after World War II are extremely scarce, especially on utilitarian weapons such as the Model 94. One of the most handsome post-war Winchester Model 1894 carbines we have had the pleasure to offer.
