Beginning in January of 1943, US&S Co. manufactured Model 1911-A1 pistols for the U.S. military contract in that year only. The frames do not bear inspector marks, which is correct. There is a proof “P” on left side. Left side of slide is stamped “US&S Co. Swissvale, PA USA”. Right side of slide is blank. Right side of frame is stamped “United States Property M 1911 A1 US Army”. Has the correct serial number font sans serifs. There is no “P” on top of the slide. The barrel is stamped with heat lot “HS-1” along with “SP” on left lug, which would indicate a replacement barrel circa 1941-43. Has the unmarked Parkerized magazine with no pins, the correct Keyes brown grips with “(star) Lot 9” and reinforcing rings. Referred to as a Type 3 second variation. Has the checkered spurless hammer, third variation, no outline, checkered Type 2 third variation trigger, Type 2 fifth variation US&S knurled mainspring housing, serrated safety, checkered slide stop. Near mint bore and fine action. Slide retains approximately 98% of the re-Parkerized finish. Frame has usual takedown scarring and a few normal dings. Overall, a very nice example of a pistol that is getting very scarce on today’s market. One of the smaller World War II production pistols.
