This is a very early frame manufactured during the second year of production in 1904. It has been converted into a sporting rifle, utilizing the High Standard dated 11-44. Frame and barrel have a World War II parkerized finish. Lyman 48 receiver sight has been added. A U.S. type sporting stock installed, left side of stock is stamped "SA" for Springfield Armory. Has pistol grip with "P" in circle; wind finger groove. Milled trigger guard and floorplate have been parkerized. Has coarsely checkered metal butt with no trapdoor. Finger groove forend. U.S. marked front sling swivel and band; military rear sling swivel in stock. Stock is excellent with strong cartouche. Action is perfect. Bore is excellent. ME reading 1. Looks identical to an early Springfield sporting rifle but has a very low serial number and should be loaded with reduced loads. Barrel, frame, floorplate, and trigger guard retain virtually all of the parkerized finish. Sharp legends.
