This is one of the earliest Weatherby custom bolt action rifles. Beginning in 1949, Roy Weatherby was ordering actions of the old FN style with his name stamped on the frame. He continued using these frames through 1957. Frame is stamped “Weatherby South Gate, Calif.”. The action is a standard FN type. Using these special ordered actions, each rifle was hand built. This one features a ported heavy barrel, blued finish, folding rear sporting sight, ramp front sight, distinctive Weatherby style walnut stock with pattern No. 1 18-line checkering, Weatherby patent red rubber recoil pad and sling eyes. Pattern 15A stock inlay on right side of stock and 15B style inlay on all three sides of forend. The rifle retains virtually all of the original factory blue finish with mint bore and action. Stock is in near new condition with razor sharp checkering but does have a black knot on the left side. Sports a Jagger trigger. Bolt knob is checkered. Beautiful early 1950’s custom Roy Weatherby safari rifle probably from the second year of production. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of this firearm will be given to Ducks Unlimited Canada.
