Octagonal, rifled barrel with top flat initialed “J.D.” in script. The front and rear sights are surrounded on both sides with double lined border, typical of Lehigh County, Pennsylvania. The flat lockplate is engraved with ferns, reinforced cock and roller frizzen. Partially figured maple full length stock in the typical Lehigh form with a finely molded cheek piece. Brass furniture. Four piece pierced patchbox with delicately engraved “C” scrolls and foliage with a sun engraved at hinge, half on each side. Brass toeplate finely engraved with large leaf on long pointed finial, engraved wearplate on bottom of forend. In very good condition. Barrel retains a mostly brown patina with some lighter areas and heavy pitting around the touch hole at breech. Lock reconverted to flint and retains a lightly pitted brown patina. Brass polished, engraving crisp. Sideplate has a small repair around rear lock screw. Stock is excellent with traces of original finish. This is a very nice example of a quality circa 1820 Lehigh County long rifle in excellent condition with the lock reconversion being the only alteration.
