Round, rifles barrel marked with “V/P” over eagle’s head near breech on left side. Missing rear sight and bayonet lug. Maynard priming system-type percussion lock, stamped with date 1861 on tail and with a large eagle on primer door and “U.S./HARPER’S FERRY” near front. Steel furniture and patchbox. Plain walnut stock. Steel ramrod. About 8,700 manufactured. Good condition, all steel components have been heavily cleaned, barrel markings very light and worn. Scattered areas of light pitting, sling swivels broken off. Stock heavily sanded and refinished, cartouche outline barely visible. Rough bore.
