Round blued, rifled barrel, front sight on top and bayonet lug mounted on right side, flip-up rear sight with three leaves. Dated 1863 on top, near breech and stamped with “V/P” over eagle’s head and “STEEL/R.K.A.” proofs. Flat case-hardened lockplate dated 1863 on tail and stamped with large eagle over “U.S.” in center with “REMINGTON’S/ILION, N.Y.” Typical brass furniture and patchbox. Plain walnut stock with two deeply struck cartouches on left side, behind rear lock screw, “HDJ” and “RYC.” Excellent condition. Barrel retains about 98% blue finish with scattered areas of surface freckling on top. Lock retains 10-20% bright case colors and faded case colors in remaining areas, some scattered dark spots. Brass retains a mellow patina. Stock excellent with light scattered storage marks. Excellent bore. Very fine, all original example.
