Octagonal, smoothbore barrel stamped “H. GIBBS / LANCASTER PA” on top flat. Flat percussion lockplate marked “STEINMAN / & SON / LANCASTER PA”. Brass furniture including four piece pierced patchbox with two acanthus leaves engraved on the lid, small oval wrist escutcheon and inlay above cheek piece, both engraved with stars in the center. Full length figured maple stock of the typical Lancaster County, Pennsylvania form, checkered wrist. Good condition, barrel retains darkened lacquer finish, some heavy pitting around bolster, clear maker’s mark. Percussion lock retains a light grey spotted patina. Brass retains a dark patina. The stock is fair but cracked and needs to be repaired on both sides of the buttstock. Directly forward of the patchbox, a chip of wood is also missing above the lockplate and there is a crack on both sides of the forend. Replaced wooden ramrod is about 3” short.
