Has Remington Arms March 44 barrel with no front sight, finish indicates no front sight ever installed. Forward receiver bridge has offset numbers and maker stamp to allow reading with scope base installed; indicates specially made as a sniper rifle. Has the original Redfield World War II sniper base; scope has been replaced with a modern Bushnell and rings, and needs a set of 3/4" top mount rings and proper World War II scope to make this a 100% original sniper rifle. The scant grip walnut stock has the "F.J.A." (Frank Atwood) on left side. "P" stamp on grip. World War II era pressed trigger guard, floorplate and barrel band. Checkered buttplate with smooth trap. Has period leather pad. Frame and barrel retain most of the original green phosphate military finish. ME reading .5; TE reading 2. Bolt, safety and selector switch are blued. Fine bore and action. This fine, specially made World War II U.S. sniper rifle simply needs to proper rings and scope.
