Octagonal rifled barrel, signed “*John*Derr” in script on top flat. Flat flintlock lockplate, stamped “JOHN M. KEIM” in center; roller frizzen. Brass furniture including four-piece patchbox, fastened by screws. Oval wrist escutcheon held in place by large nail and shaped brass fore-end wear plate. Triggerguard with faceted bow and full sideplate. Partially figured maple stock with raised panels around lock and sideplate; wooden ramrod. In very good, as found condition. Barrel retains a brown patina with some lighter areas. Barrel has been shortened in period of use and the rear sight has been moved back about four inches and the original dovetail professionally filled with brass. Lock retains brown patina with some surface rust. Brass now has a mellow patina, patchbox dark and unpolished. Stock very good, having its original finish, with a crack stemming from rear lock tang and extending around wrist. Scattered scratches, dents and marks from use.
